iPad Repairs | Screens, Batteries, Charging Ports and Liquid Damage
Besides phones, Mobile Repair Pro Shop handles iPad, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad Pro with cracked screens, inaccurate touch, Apple Pencil issues, ageing batteries, slow charging or faults after liquid exposure or drops. We inspect free of charge, identify the model and generation, and itemise repairs and costs in writing before you approve work. Most repairs take under 1 hour, with touch, Apple Pencil, Face ID or Touch ID tested before collection.
Common iPad fault symptoms
- Cracked or black screen, or abnormal images
- Inaccurate touch, ghost touches or unresponsive areas
- Apple Pencil strokes are intermittent
- Ageing battery and noticeably shorter runtime
- Charging slows down, stops or has poor contact
- Malfunctions after liquid exposure or a drop
- Face ID or Touch ID failure
- Speaker, camera or buttons not working
Quick answer: iPad repairs fall into three main categories: screen replacement, battery replacement and functional fault diagnosis. Repair a cracked screen promptly to prevent spreading cracks and dust or moisture entering. On some models, such as iPad (A16), the outer glass and LCD can be replaced separately. Apple states that iPad batteries are designed to retain 80% of original capacity after 1000 complete charge cycles. Newer models show maximum capacity and cycle count under Settings → Battery → Battery Health and offer an 80% charge limit. Our shop is at Shop G81B, G/F, Sin Tat Plaza, Mong Kok (MTR Exit D2). We offer free inspection and a written quote, with most iPad repairs completed within 1 hour.

iPad, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad Pro: how do repairs differ?
These series look similar but differ in display construction, unlocking methods and component design, directly affecting repair methods, time and price. The technician identifies the exact model and generation first to avoid incorrect quotes:
| Series | Points to note for repair |
|---|---|
| iPad (standard model) | Apple states that the outer glass and LCD on iPad (A16) can be replaced separately; it uses Touch ID for unlocking |
| iPad mini | Small body requires particular care during disassembly; iPad mini (A17 Pro) uses Touch ID |
| iPad Air | Tightly bonded display requires careful disassembly; iPad Air (M2 and later) uses Touch ID |
| iPad Pro | Some high-end displays are more intricate; Face ID models need careful handling of TrueDepth camera flex cables during screen replacement |
*Unlocking methods and component designs follow Apple's official information and may differ between generations.
Is it safe to leave a cracked iPad screen unrepaired if it still works?
Users often delay repairing a cracked iPad because display and touch still work. However, cracks spread with use and temperature changes. Glass fragments may cut fingers or scratch or damage Apple Pencil tips. Gaps let dust and moisture reach the display layer, potentially causing display problems or failure. On models with separately replaceable glass and display layers, earlier repair increases the chance of needing only outer glass, potentially lowering the cost.
Will Apple Pencil and Face ID still work after screen replacement?
Professional replacement carefully handles the touch layer and flex cables, generally preserving Apple Pencil writing, pairing and pressure sensitivity. iPad Pro Face ID also requires care around the TrueDepth camera flex cables. The technician tests writing, pairing and unlocking before collection.
Apple explains that iPad displays and iPadOS are designed together. Non-genuine displays may have compatibility or performance issues, such as touch faults or increased power use. We explain the display type and possible effects before repair so you can decide. For iPhone screen replacement, see iPhone screen replacement.
What is iPad Parts and Service History?
Apple states that if an iPad has been repaired, Parts and Service History under Settings → General → About can show whether genuine Apple parts were used:
- Genuine: Repaired using genuine Apple parts and procedures.
- Used: The part is genuine but was previously used or installed in another iPad.
- Finish Repair: The repair is unfinished; use Repair Assistant to complete it.
- Unknown: The part is not genuine, is malfunctioning or has not been verified after repair.
Apple says these messages do not affect normal iPad use. The parts shown depend on the model: iPad Pro (M4 and M5) shows the TrueDepth camera and display; iPad Air (M2, M3 and M4), iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad (A16) show Touch ID. This section appears only if a part has been replaced or is not functioning properly.
How do I check iPad battery health, and when should I replace the battery?
Apple states that iPad batteries are designed to retain 80% of original capacity after 1000 complete charge cycles, depending on usage and charging habits. Supported models—iPad Pro M4 and later, iPad Air M2 and later, iPad mini A17 Pro and iPad A16—show maximum capacity, cycle count, manufacture date and first-use date under Settings → Battery → Battery Health. Older models lack this display; watch for shorter runtime, sudden shutdowns or swelling.
Apple also explains that an iPad stops charging when full and resumes only below 95%, so leaving it plugged in overnight is safe. However, heat generated during charging may shorten battery life; unplug it when full if possible.
How do I enable the iPad 80% charge limit?
Apple states that iPad Pro (M4) and later, iPad Air (M2) and later, iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad (A16) support an “80% Limit” to extend battery life:
- How to enable: Open Settings → Battery → Battery Health and enable “80% Limit”.
- How it works: The iPad stops charging at around 80% and resumes to around 80% when the level falls to 75%.
- Occasional full charge: Even with the limit enabled, iPad occasionally charges to 100% to maintain accurate battery readings.
- Temporarily override: You can select “Allow Until Tomorrow”; the 80% limit resumes at 6 am the next morning.
Safety advice: Apple recommends installing only new batteries, as used batteries may be damaged during removal and cause overheating, swelling, leakage or other safety issues. If your iPad screen is lifting or the body is bulging, the battery may be swollen. Stop using and charging it immediately. Do not open or squeeze it; arrange repair promptly.
What should be checked before replacing the battery?
- Charging port: Clean port dust and rule out a port-related charging fault rather than assuming the battery is bad. See Charging Port Repair.
- Software battery drain: Check for excessive battery use by background apps and location services. See Software Troubleshooting.
- Battery health: On supported models, check Maximum Capacity in Settings to help decide whether replacement is needed.
- Usage conditions: Prolonged charging or use in high temperatures accelerates battery ageing.
What should I do if my iPad gets wet?
After liquid exposure, turn off your iPad immediately, do not charge it, dry the outside and seek repair promptly. An iPad's large body lets liquid seep through screen edges or ports; internal corrosion may continue even when the outside is dry. Failure to turn on, display problems or other malfunctions require an internal logic board inspection. See Liquid damage repair; for urgent data recovery, see Data recovery.
Official versus independent iPad repairs: which suits you?
Apple's Hong Kong website states that the limited warranty covers manufacturing issues for one year from purchase. Repairs and replacement parts are covered for 90 days or the remaining warranty, whichever is longer. AppleCare plans provide free battery replacement below 80% capacity. Check official service first for AppleCare+ or covered manufacturing issues. Independent repair may be more practical for expired warranties, accidental damage or same-day collection.
| Criteria | Apple or authorised repair service | Our shop (independent phone repair specialist) |
|---|---|---|
| Best suited to | AppleCare+, manufacturing issues under warranty or a priority on genuine parts history | Out of warranty, accidental damage or urgent same-day collection |
| Parts | Genuine Apple parts | Part types and possible effects explained before repair |
| Turnaround | Depends on official arrangements | Most within 1 hour |
| How quotes are provided | Official pricing | Free inspection and written quote before work starts |
| Warranty | 90 days or the remaining warranty period, whichever is longer | 1–3 months' written warranty on major repairs (subject to the warranty document) |
*Official terms are subject to Apple's latest information. Our terms are stated in the in-person quotation and written warranty. We are not an Apple Authorised Service Provider.
What should I prepare before an iPad repair?
- Back up first: Back up with iCloud or a computer. Repair normally does not erase data, but a backup is recommended as a precaution.
- Make sure you know your passcode: Your screen passcode and Apple Account password may be needed for collection tests.
- Bring your Apple Pencil: For on-site writing and pairing tests.
- Remove the case and keyboard: Helps us inspect the body and screen edges.
- Explain what happened: Whether it was dropped, got wet or was previously repaired.
